Under the Colorado Children’s Extensive Services (CES) Waiver, a “community connector” is a support service designed to help children and families access community resources and engage in social activities while working on goals outlined in their individualized service plan. This role involves connecting with clients by exploring local services, programs, and opportunities in the community preferred by the client that promote inclusion, skill development, and overall well-being. Community connectors aim to enhance the child’s participation in their community while supporting the family’s needs.
Under Colorado Children’s Extensive Services (CES) Waiver, “respite” refers to short-term relief provided to families or caregivers of children with developmental disabilities or complex medical needs. This service allows caregivers to take a break while ensuring that the child receives exceptional care in a safe environment, whether that be their own home or the direct support providers home, as well as accessing the community. Respite can help reduce caregiver stress and prevent burnout, promoting overall family and client well-being.
